ABOUT

Mona comes from a long line of creatives. Both her grandfathers were woodworkers and many in her extended family are architects and designers. Her love of drawing and cooking brought her to design school with an initial interest in restaurant design. During the process she gravitated towards designing cabinetry and furniture and never looked back.

Mona thrives on problem solving and many of her unique designs rise out of confronting restrictions. Whether it’s weaving cabinetry around odd framing or concealing obtrusive mechanicals, Mona creates solutions that expand the potential of the space.

Throughout the design process she is motivated by flow, connectivity, and functionality. Mona’s aesthetic direction comes from a reverence for quality materials, timeless design, and forward thinking. This results in designs that give tangible form to the ideas, feelings, and memories that sparked the conversation for change.

With over two decades of industry experience, Mona has an extensive knowledge of custom cabinetry and architectural details. She has designed countless kitchens, closets, and baths in many homes in the northeast and in Minnesota. With her previous firm, many of the projects she collaborated on have won awards and were featured in numerous magazines.

Now Mona is bringing her unique set of talents to Mona Hurkadli Design, where respect for the smallest of details and appreciation of functional design has become her signature in her work.

Mona has lived in the suburbs of Minneapolis since 2005. Outside of design, she enjoys cooking, gardening, sourcing vintage goods, organizing, and spending time with her creative husband, two energetic boys, and two lazy cats.
